Take him to Coimbra Uni to see the young ladies first. He may change his mind

He might even enjoy the prospective of wearing a long black cape and make a cut on it every time he conquers a heart... 8)

WOW... I didnt realize it had been so long since I had updated this.... Do you guys remember me lol...

Well, Billy is now a young man who prefers to be called William. This is due to the fact that there is a condom brand on Portugal called Billyboy. So he always got **** at school lol.

He did well in secondary school until the final year. He failed this. However it turned out to be a blessing in disguise and to only fail 1 year after being thrown in at the deep end aged 7 I was very proud of him.

When he did complete his final year he left and went to college in Portimao. He is now studying Business Management and Accounting. And believe it or not he enjoys it!! :bounce:

Aged 14 he took his bike test and since then has gained a lot of independence. He always got himself a job in the long summer holidays and currently works full time in the summer for Subway in the big Aqua shopping centre. He also works weekends for them during busy periods.

He is also very active and is a member of the American Football team which is the Portimao Pirates. You can see him here in the #10 jersey. http://www.sulinformacao.pt/2015/11/algarve-pirates-procuram-jogadores-para-reforcar-a-sua-equipa-de-futebol-americano/ As you can see he is a little bigger than the lad we started with and now stands 6ft 3"

He will be 18 in November and already talking investments with me. He is looking to buy a repossession apartment to rent out and maybe go into property management(buy to let scenario) the the college is obviously doing its job.

As usual I hope everybody is well and managing to keep their heads above water :) Have a great 2016

Thanks Diskwizz for the update. Great to hear that Billy, sorry William ;-) overcame the difficulties of being thrown in at the deep end, and has obviously turned into a fine young man. Congratulations to him and to you Dad for sticking with it through the heartaches. I wish William and yourself all the best for the future.

If you have been following this story then please ignore the first part. I am copying it so that people can follow from the begining.

I had to take my 7 year old(8 in November) for his 1st morning in school today. He was a brave little soldier until we got into the classroom. I nearly brought him home with me as not a person in his school speaks English. I dont mind admitting I had a good cry when i got back to my apartment wondering what the hell i had done. I was dreading picking him up at 12. Anyway, noon arrives and out of the classroom he pops full of smiles and half a dozen portuguese kids says "boa tad billy". He was absolutely fine and even though he understands nobody he loved it.

Moral of that story i guess is, yes you will panic at first but dont get yourself worked as it might be a total waste of time.
If you need any help at all please dont hesitate to get in touch. We have all been there.

Gosh, I remember reading this post and can't believe 10 years have flown by and that the little chap is now an adult. Your family is a success story - well done!

Hey Folks!!

I have no idea why but this thread found its way back to my laptop. I have just had a great 30 mins reading back not just thru my owns posts but everybody elses too.

My son is now 20 and is now working ful time in the family business. For those who don't know we run an airport transfers company in the Algarve http://www.algarve-365.com

He now drives for us and assists with a lot of the running around getting things sorted to keep the biz in tip top shape.

When we left the UK he had a 7yr old (same age as him) girlfriend. Well a couple of years ago they hooked up again and have been long distance dating ever since. She is hoping to move over here by the latest next year.

He did OK at college but never had any intention of going to Uni as he is like his dad and enjoys the feel of money in his back pocket. The fact the he speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese is a great asset to the company.

I actually just showed him his first comment on this thread and he went purple with shame at his spelling lol.

My daughter is also doing really well. She is half way thru a 3 year course in college doing humanities and languages. She is 17 and has a Portuguese bf called Diogo who is a great fella. She now speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese and doing really well in her German course in college.

She isn't too sure what she wants to do when she leaves college, unlike my son who from the age of 11 only ever said he wanted to drive a big van for his dad. Which is now what he does :)

Have added a couple of pics of me and the kids just so you can put a face to the names.

Would love to hear from anybody else who commented on this thread who either had kids already at school. like OIK or people who had kids due to start school. How did they all get on?
