What a lovely thing you've done and achieved through patience, kindness and quiet determination to get there in the end and maybe gently taught someone about animal welfare in the process .....maybe she thought your husband could do with the exercise after all those cakes too!

Thanks again. I never thought our little venture would bring in so many kind replies and anecdotes. Victoria, I wonder what your neighbours think those eye-catching "ornaments" on unaltered Tom-cats are for! Joe K, you got me thinking and you're right about a man (as I assume from your name you are) walking alone. When unaccompanied, I "alert" far less to a man with a dog, hoe, saw, sickle, or even shotgun on a hunting day(!) than to one with no apparent purpose. Scruffy sounds lovely. Trust the pups found good homes.

That is an excellent story. Next you take over the local council presidency! Viva!

Thanks, Mrs Spownall. Unfortunately the recent wet weather has reduced Kelly's daily pleasure to a biscuit or chew-stick, since she would freeze if we returned her damp to her hole under the steps. We have managed to add our oldest, most decrepit crocheted woolly blanket to her bedding, a great hit since even after a pre-donation washing it likely still pongs strongly of our own dogs and cat. She seems to enjoy rearranging it to her taste, as doggies do!

Joe and Vicarni.... wish there were more like you around in portugal.

Your stories made me smile.

Sat at work in the UK, dreaming of my dogs and my farm...
