Can anyone offer advice or feedback based on personal experience of pet clearance in Lisbon/Portugal? My eyes are raw from Google searching! Our agency referred us to local Portuguese agents but they charge €500 plus. I've read on other forums that the process is relatively quick and easy without cost (since first port of entry & Vet inspection will happen in Germany). Info is very sketchy & contradictory. Any info will be appreciated, thx! Our two Pekes arrive in Lisbon from South Africa on 30 April 2019.

Can you post a (edited perhaps) reply on the forum also? A forum is, after all, about sharing information, and others may be interested.

Thanks

Alan

Ok Alan.

For anyone looking for info on Pet Travel to PT, have a look at this website:

http://www.dgv.min-agricultura.pt/porta ... ui=4404604

We were given the following numbers for Posto de Inspecção Fronteiriço Veterinário-Lisbon:
00351 218463793
00351 218492434
00351 919551607
We have never tried the above numbers as we have never needed to.

A list of contact numbers/email/fax for Point of Entry for pets (airports and ports) are recorded on the EU website here:
https://ec.europa.eu/food/sites/food/fi ... ry_prt.pdf

The EU regulations of movement of pets from non EU countries, can be found here:
https://ec.europa.eu/food/animals/pet-m ... -non-eu_en

Hope this helps.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, Lorelei.
The process of leaving RSA to Portugal is being covered/managed by the local pet travel agency that we're using. Since there are no direct flights (strangely) from RSA to Portugal, they will be stopping over in Germany, Frankfort. This is where their first EU entry is and therefore Vet inspection and clearance must happen. We've been told by other travelling pet owners that the collection process will/should be relatively easy in Lisbon, since there won't be a 2nd Vet inspection required. We've also found a few Facebook groups that covers this topic extensively, but these groups are South African focused - so it will be difficult to comment on Pets coming into Portugal from other non-EU countries. South Africa is classified as a high risk rabies region, hence our procedures are different ITO blood tests, vaccinations, titre etc. I can confirm that we've also been told that the cost for collecting our pets from Lisbon airport when they arrive, will be well under the €500 which Portuguese agents have quoted us to "assist". I've been warned that this is daylight robbery and that we must not pay such high fees when it's so easy to do ourselves.
