I have my UK car over here in Portimao until end of September. The air conditioning in the car doesn't work. We tried to get it fixed before we left the UK but there was not enough time. IT has been re-gassed (twice) but only lasts a day. The garage said they couldn't find a leak and think the compressor was far too hot, and probably broken.

I have searched for a garage in / around Portimao but can only find garages that basically re-gas, they don't do repairs / replacement of parts for the air con.

Does anyone know of a good garage in or around Portimao / Lagos, Alvor, Lagos that can check it out, and if necessary replace / repair the air conditioning parts?

It's a ford focus

I don't get involved with car air conditioning although I have repaired my own in the past. I do however work on a specialised refrigeration unit as part of my job so it isn't completely alien to me.
When your air con is switched on, can you hear the relay clicking, engaging the compressor on and off?
If you have lost gas so quickly I would have thought the system would be empty of gas in which case the low pressure sensor would stop the compressor turning on, in which case I would have thought it unlikely it would overheat.
Chances are there is a leak at one of the joints, or there is a hole in the condenser (in front of the radiator) or as was the case with mine, an aluminium tube corroded so badly it had developed a hole in it.
I can't help with any garage suggestions but it should be within the capabilities of most garages in a country where air conditioning is commonplace.

Teach him to fish and he will sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

Hi oidman . Try Renault at Lagos, opposite Pingo Doce over the bridge. They have serviced and repaired my cars since 2003 and were happy to check the air conditioning when I thought I had a problem. All their staff are very helpful.
Sorry! Meant to say that August is not a good time to go! (anywhere)
