I'd appreciate any help around the following please....
I'm struggling to find automotive supplies type shops (other than NorAuto which isn't suitable).
Can anybody point me towards a chain of places (aka: Machine Mart) or suggest what Portuguese text to search with in google maps please?

I'm looking for shops that stock a huge variety of items that a typical garage would need:
Different types of grease, silicone, sealants, tools, bulbs, automotive cleaners, tool chests, diag equipment, car jacks etc etc

Generally you’d go to a local store rather than a chain.

Ask around at your local cafe or petrol station.

Google "peças automoveis" may find something near you.

As Simon says there are many small shops - we have at least 3 in our small town. If what you want is not in stock they can usually get it by the next day.

Thanks, as I'm between Setubal and Lisboa I have an abundance of places to try, but I'm wasting a lot of time driving from place to place to place so was hoping there was a good chain that I'd missed etc
I'm finding it just as quick, cheaper and much easier just to order from the UK to my PO Box for many things, with the added bonus that the instructions are in English ;)
I'd like to spend my money in the Portuguese economy, but service standards are sometimes interesting and the selection limited...

I have found chains to be not good service or value (ESPECIALLY NORAUTO - GRRRRRRRRR!)

I stumbled across this shop near Seixal the other day and was very happy to find it - it was like an Aladdin's cave :)

If they don't have it they will prob know where to get it

there is an auto electrical shop next door too

Very friendly and efficient in both

In Lisboa:
Really good for bits for the old Veedub campers and beetles I have had over the years, the present polo and other brands too:

Good for the Freelander

"Aladdin's cave"
Exactly the kind of place I'd like.... thanks ;) I'll check them both out shortly...

Norauto is fairly grim ;-)
But some chains are good for some things, and if nothing else open until 11pm everyday ;-)
