 Post subject: Splitting off land

I want to buy a simple house in the countryside, but not the 10 or more hectares that often come with them these days, especially when you are looking inland. I don't want the responsibility of so much land especially with the fire risks.
Does anyone have experience of splitting land in Portugal? Is it at all possible? or renting out land to agricultural/forestry co's?

Also with the devastating fires we've just had, surely there should be a way for the gov to take control of these huge areas of eucalyptus forest and NOT oblige inexperienced people like me to have to look after them? There are many expats who own 5 hectares + and are absent...
