Hi All

With my pending trip back to the UK and my next birthday to looked to renew my driving licence. As I was about to leave to go to the IMTT in Coimbra I spoke to a friend about what I was about to have to do. He told me that I could go to the reception in the local Camara, I doubted what he said but I went to the Camara.
I was told that all I needed was the medical form from my doctor, passport and my Portuguese driving licence. Ten minutes and all was done for two years.

So if the time comes to renew your licence go to your Camara instead of a day out to the IMTT in places like Coimbra.

Peter

Useful advice for the future Peter Thank You.
We are still in the process of registering our current UK licenses until they expire in a couple of years time, but after last experience of visiting the IMT in Faro, haven't worked ourselves up to returning!!

Hi Peter,
So are you over 70 then? I need to do mine (74 soon) but have always used the driving school. How much did they charge you and did they not want a new photo? And did they just print you off a new licence?
The driving school takes mine and my gp´s form, etc. and then Santarem send the licence back to my home. The school gives me an official stamped letter to show the police if I am stopped before I get the licence back.
Your way sounds much better/quicker IF Tomar camara will do it. They seem to be a
"law unto themselves"!!

Hi Topmast

Sunday I will be an age I have to renew my licence every two years now. Driving School well now you can go to the Camara like most people where I live. But as I said before this only works if you have your five year residency.

Peter

Hi Peter,
That is o.k. then as I have my 10 year residency (about 7 years left on it).
I will give it a go, but last time my GP said I could renew it at the post office.
Great! BUT after the usual long queue I was told "sorry, that is only for Portuguese ..."!!

The last two times (2018 and 2016) that I renewed my driving license the office in the Câmera could not do it over the counter as they could not process my residence permit. This is Tábua. So we went to Coimbra.

Perhaps Peter´s Câmera has different computer connections or staff.

Let us see if next time (2020) Tábua are better organised.
