Ola,

We have just returned to the UK following a two week house hunting trip. We have been visiting Portugal for many years and have flown many times to Lisbon.
On this trip we were delayed on the way out and on the way back due to congestion at Lisbon. The airport is struggling to cope with the amount of flights and people coming and going.
We have a house that we like near Bombarral so Lisbon is the closest airport. I am now considering flying to Oporto for our next trip, hopfully in a few weeks.
Is Oporto less busy and congested than Lisbon in members experience?

I except that we would have about an extra hours drive but I don't mind that.

Obrigado.

Hi Stephen

Porto is less of a problem as you say Lisboa is. since 2007 i have been flying into Porto many time per year and to date have not had a problem. There is one spot that at rush hour the traffic has kept moving but i have never had it come to a stop.

You could either hire a car and drive all the way or get the Metro from the airport and change at Campanha to get the train South. For train info go to CP>PT and they have an English option for the over 65's there is half price tickets.

Good luck.

Peter

Methinks it would be a lot more than an extra hour's drive drive. Google maps gives me an approx transit time of 2hrs 30mins.

Porto Airport is on the north side of Porto.

The motorways around Porto are usually very busy and just as congested as those around Lisbon.

Via the A8 Bombarral to Lisbon Airport it is 45 mins. To where I live just south of Torres Vedras it's about 30 mins.

Can you indicate is the problem with Lisbon is road traffic congestion or flight congestion?

Where are you flying from? Manchester?

You will be restricted to either using Paddyair or Easyjet.

Thank you Peter for the reply.

Barlaventoexpert,

Thank you for your reply. The problem is delayed flights in and out of Lisbon due to congestion at the airport. They cannot process passengers quickly enough due to the numbers.
We also had a problem on Saturday with traffic in the airport roads and car parks. The police were actually trying to control traffic because the traffic was heavy.
Maybe because we decided to travel on a Saturday did not help?

So Porto airport is also heavy traffic in and and out?

Does it matter what time of day?

Obrigado

Oh and our nearest airport in UK is Brum. Ryanair fly to Porto from there apparently.

HI Stephen

Five return flights this year and eight last year and i haven't seen traffic problems at Porto apart from rush hour on twice last year.

Perhaps some more research but the trains are good.

Peter

Hi Peter,

This is encouraging information, thank you.

We would consider the train in the long term but for now we need a car because we have a fair bit of running around to do.

We have used the trains in PT many times. Sadly the Oeste Linha is rather infrequent.

Obrigado
