Some of you may remember the thread from last year regarding KBS Property -

http://expatsportugal.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10877

Khes Smedley of KBS Property has decided to proceed with legal action. I have been called to the Coimbra Police station with my lawyer.

Although I have no interest in KBS one way or the other, I do have strong feelings about the right of Expats Portugal Forum members to respond to questions with their opinions and experiences, with a view to helping others.

I have no idea what will transpire tomorrow and I will fight for the forum and its members. But if I am forced to remove the KBS thread I will close the forum temporarily and pursue any further legal options available.

If a precedent is set and we have to remove this type of thread, I really can't see the point in continuing the site.

Anyone who wishes to contribute to the legal costs and keep expatsportugal.com alive, donate via paypal to

simon@expatsportugal.com

or email me if you prefer an alternative.

Should there be an excess of funds I suggest that I could donate it to ARCIL, a local organisation who do sterling work for disabled and abused kids.

http://www.arcil.org

Thanks to all for your support during these last six years. It's been very interesting! :)

PLEASE NOTE As this is an ongoing case we cannot discuss Khes Smedley or KBS Property. Anyone who posts about these subjects will have the post removed and a possible ban. Thanks for your understanding.

Good luck with the meeting tomorrow, we really hope that Expats will continue it has been invaluble with our move to Portugal, it was a 2 year move, with a complete house rebuild using local builders, and much of the information gained has been from this forum, we could not have done it with out expats and the experiences and advise of others and the freedom of speech that allowed them to post all the information

Good luck :) :) :)

The KBS property thread contained only fair comment and therefore cannot be considered defamatory. To win such an action KBS would have to show that it is the victim of a vindictive smear campaign, which was not the case.

Taking legal action over this is stupid and, in itself, vindictive and it will have the opposite effect because it will spread the story much further, and KBS will be the victim of its own behaviour.

What a horrible situation, I hope it works out OK. As others have said, this forum is an invaluable source of help and advice. It's also far less cliquey and argumentative than other forums can be (unless we are talking about Iceland!)

Small donation made and good luck :)

Simon,
I honestly believe that present and former members will join me in saying that for expats, holiday home owners, visitors to Portugal and also our Portuguese members, expats portugal promotes PT to many, who buy property, give work to many and much more....
It is the most informative and enjoyable forum in PT.......and by the way Simon, put your trust in Portugal's prosecution service, they are far from stupid people and Ex Pats Portugal has been around a long time unlike other companies who come to PTand later disappear. Ali xx
