Have seen this on Twitter advising that postal ballots will not be out in time in the event of December GE. Advises proxy vote:

I wasn't holding out much hope of getting our postal votes through in time in any case - this just underlines that. For the EU elections earlier this year, one of our postal votes arrived in time (just), but mine only arrived after the voting day.

Unfortunately, as one of the comments below the tweet you linked to says, proxy votes have to be made at the relevant polling station. So that's a no for us - we have no family/friends links at all with the place where we were last registered.

The whole issue of overseas voting rights needs a complete overhaul.
