Hi expaters

I'm going to do a wine review ahead of the wine bloggers expo coming to portugal soon.

Does anyone have a nomination for best wine under 2 euros?

I've decided specials can be included (but probably not discounts with supermarket card). You just have to say where and when you bought it for that price.

I'm rather fond of Dao Monastico 2007, on special for 99c at minipreco.

Where are you, pureportugal, I know you'll have one...

Ah-ha! So that's your budgeting secret! Either drink wine free or don't drink...

Well I wish i could say the same but our village's vines are morangeira and it's only just barely drinkable for the truly desperate. It reminds me of a cheap australian shiraz that's gone a bit off. Chateau chunder.

The old owner of my house left behind a dozen bottles of something much lighter than morangeira. I thought it was a fine rosé, but maybe I was affected by just-bought-a-house-in-portugal fever, because no one else liked it... including the owner, obviously!

The Portuguese equivalent of the "Which" magazine has said that Lidl's Vinho Tinto UVAS DOURADAS costing €1.70 compares with wine selling in the €10 to €15 price range.

Julie tried it and said it was OK!

Try including some of the 1 litre "bricks" most of them are acceptable. In fact it's quite amusing to listen to wine connoisseur friend saying how nice they are when they'd rather die than be seen buying it.

What they don't know doesn't harm them (as my old mammy used to say).

:D I don’t often drink white but BORBA is an old favourite @ under €2

"João Pires" is a good white but way over €2

"JP Tinto" & "Terras del Rei" are 2 good reds @ under €2 .. both are good at room temp. or chilled.
