You have to pick your times to go into the PT office in Portimao as sometimes there can be a long wait to be seen but the staff are always helpful and speak pretty good english and pointing.

Hi Spook and welcome to the forum.

Castelo Branco is Central Portugal, Santo Tirso is in the north, about 20 km north of Porto. It's a small city of about 14,000 inhabitants, about 72,000 in the overall municipality.

Here's a basic profile of who I teach: at the Institute, mainly teenagers and adults. I do private lessons too which are a mixture of school kids needing extra tuition, professionals for their work, uni students who need improved communication because they're going to wherever to study and retired professionals who want to fill their time and keep their brains active. I've worked in companies either through the Institute or privately (they contact me) and I go to people's houses if necessary. The variations are limitless.

It can be a bit erratic, especially at the beginning of the school year, and you can never guarantee a fixed income unless you have a base job at a language school but then you have to be careful that you don't sign a contract giving them exclusivity. If you want to work full-time, you need a base job at a language school for example and then fill in with as many tutoring lessons as you can find.

Leave your cv with as many places as you can find within a reasonable travelling distance of where you'll be living.

When are you moving over permanently? You might find it harder to get a job once the school year has started (end of September).
