Capataz.
Our builder recommended it to us.
We get it in a 5litre bottle (garrafão) from the local Ecomarche, but other local supermarkets stock it too. Can´t remember the exact price, but it is under under 7€. There is a deposit on the flask.
We have tried other 5litre boxes and garrafões. They were cheaper but all have disapointed. |

Well viewers, at this point we are seeing a clear trend in the polls, and it looks as though we have a clear favourite... looks like this horse will be hard to beat, but nothing is certain until the race has been run... any late candidates to challenge the leader......?
I've been very busy digging a trench and I keep forgetting to get to the shop in time to get something to drink... and then I come inside to check the mail and read this... it's been 3 days now and I'm getting very very very very thirsty... _________________ emma

So, what will be on your shopping list??
Looks like real savings comes in BIG boxes!
You may need someone to help you carry the vats?
Maybe even some more thirsty people on your review panel.. |

My vote goes to Capataz as well.
A fair number of restaurants in the Lagos area have a box tucked behind the counter and dispense it as the house wine. That's how we discovered it. _________________ I intend to live forever -- so far, so good |

| Another vote for Capataz but it's too easy to pour "another one" from a 10 liter box so, good bottles are Alandra - red, white and rose, although the rose is over 2 euros. Porta da Ravessa and just under 2 euros at the moment in Lidl. I bought the cheap 1 liter box from Lidl for cooking but now someone has said it tastes good I might drink it instead! K |

Actually, yes, I'm a little bit tipsy on the Alandra this evening (purely professional reasons, of course) and in my altered state I do believe the JP Azeitao is a quite acceptable drop also. Thanks to to guy with the bug, I think...
After a trip to minipreco I must put a plug in for a cab sav and a syrah from the Altillo label - they are in fact from la tierra de castilla which would make them spanish... but as long as they are available here, I don't see why they can't be included. Any objections?
Now, people: Big question:
Who would be interested in being on the testing panel? _________________ emma

| I think the litre carton packs branco or tinto from Lidl are excellent value, only thing is they go down too easy, then amazements strikes you at how many empty cartons there are, especially if you are having a good chinwag with friends. For a splash out I like Tinoco reserva a really nice full bodied tinto around €4 a bottle, the branco is also nice. Not sure off hand where abouts in Portugal, it comes from & I should do as our neighbours brother owns the vineyard, think it could be the Alentajo. After reading previous posts the Capataz seems the most popluar, must give it a whirl, is it from Lidl? |

| A reasonable "glugging" everyday wine from Lidl is Terras de Xisto which is from the Alentejano. Cheap, cheerful and very drinkable. Tried a bottle of the Alandra tonight.....that's not bad either! |

Our vote is for Alandra but from the votes it seems we are missing out having not sampled Capataz.
Off to Lidl
Thanks for recommendations. |

The trouble with casks is that they give you no indication of how much you've drunk. At least with a bottle I know when it's finished, I should stop! Maybe I'll have to dose it out beforehand like an old granny and her medication.
In some private testing sessions this week, the JP tinto and the Alandro compare very favourably with my Dao Monastico, so votes for them. I'm off to Coimbra to patrol the big supermarkets... _________________ emma

Capataz is most likely a sponsor of this part of the forum, or soon to be ; )
Expectations set high, can't afford not trying it! |

Oh no! The whole point of a 2 euro wine is to keep your expectations low! _________________ emma

perhaps I am missing your intention but surely the same applies with a box? |
