A great thread turns herbal and vegan in just a couple of posts
My apologies! Good luck with the testing everyone! It's going to be a difficult job, I'm sure! |

Punters: I suggest the following procedure.
1. Choose 3 wines from the list below and bring them home.
etc etc ...
Here's the shopping list: Purchase price must be UNDER 2 EUROS only!!! (or if in the case of cask/box less than 2.66 per litre.) ...

I can't be the only person in the UK who's almost in tears reading this ?

Yes - Continente.
I did a supermarket tour today (but not Pingo Doce, looking forward to that) and I was very impressed with the range in Modelo (IE Continente) in this price range. And as everyone has suggested, Lidl were very good too.
They don't seem to compete with each other on price: JP Azeitao and Alandra were identically priced in Modelo, Lidl and Minipreco. So that's slightly interesting, maybe.
I've got 12 bottles from the list - but no Capataz!
If anyone sees it between Pombal and Coimbra (and inland) please let me know.
And Mr Worchestershishire, don't cry. There there. Have a nice cup of tea instead, all I can get is crap liptons or tetleys. _________________ emma

I just luves me wines......and one of my favourite wines is Italian (sorry PT)....Lambrusco.
Now you can make the following "poor man's" version of lambrusco, which really did come about by pure accident. Like most of my disasters in the kitchen.
Anyhows…..I was cooking and drinking Lidl's lemon (lemonade)…. Alongside my glass of lemonade I placed an empty glass and thought I had filled the empty glass with about one quarter of Lidl's Carton Vino de Mesa (Tinto) 11.5% vol, which I use in my cooking. However, I mixed the plonky with the lemonade. Hence Ali’s Lambrusho was born. Seriously, it is a very refreshing drink.

Thanks to everyone for your enthusiasm and your suggestions and recommendations.
I'm going to start organising Round 2 of the tasting/testing as it's not really cricket without Capataz. And I haven't checked out Pingo Doce's range.
So if anyone has any more recommends under 2 euro, or would like to plug an already-mentioned favourite - bring it on!
I can also see a Round 3 to follow: for the whites. mmm.
And Ali... I'm fond of a wine shandy myself. I first tried the red-lemonade combo in Spain, where it was considered a perfectly respectable drink! Are you using a clear lemonade or a cloudy one? Or a bitter lemon? There's an  _________________ emma

Tough assignment gp, the quality graph for PT whites is a mesa of mediumness with rare peaks. |

I beg your pardon!!! Some Douros are delicious, not to speak of the best vinho verde (and I'm not a fan of it generally, only some). Not necessarily the most expensive ones, I've had some delightful ones without even a label. Whenever you go to Lisbon have diner at Stop (do Bairro), in Campo d'Ourique and order theirs. |
