Well, you better be right about Capataz because I just bought 3 boxes of 5l! I was all set to buy my favourite box wine so far, Fernando Po (with an accent, but I can't find it in this keyboard), but there it was, Capataz, in my local Portuguese shop so I couldn't let it go.
BTW, I didn't recommend Fernando Po because, as I am aborad, I have no idea how much is its normal price (Capataz was above 2€ here ). Otherwise, I find it pretty good. |

Not bad, actually... It even has "tears", so I suppose it could be use for a blind test against fancy and expensive stuff |

| Great white wine at the Loridos vineyard, near Cadaval. Quinta da Loridos I think it's called and at 3 euros, doesn't really compete but definitely worth a try. Haven't found it in supermarkets though so you'll all have to come to Loridos - http://www.buddhaeden.com/index.html |

Capataz in Caldas is around 7 euros for 5 litre box and 12 euros for 10 litres
I had a lot of trouble finding it on the shelves however
I assume too many expat alchies beat me to it!
found a 10 litre box for time being
but am working on Tigas rec
which she most kindly introduced me to!
definitely a wine with teeth
and character
and thats before you drink it! |

| My favourite box wine is still Fernão Pó, but I don't know how much it costs in a supermarket in Portugal. |

Another good local vineyard is Quinta da Sanguinal just across the road from the Loridos/ Bacalhôa Quinta, they have their own shop In Bombarral or you can buy it 'cheaper' from Leclerc in Caldas. Their 'Cerejeiras' line fits nicely in the sub 2€ bracket http://www.vinhos-sanguinhal.pt/ |
