Hello. Welcome to the forum.

We live part-time near Amarante, about thirty miles from Braga. We're in England at the moment and hoping to get back to Portugal in January. If you'd like to get in touch after Christmas perhaps we could arrange to meet up. Don't want to suggest any arrangement just now because I'll probably forget it by the time January comes.

It would be nice to speak to other British people occasionally. I only speak English to my Portuguese teacher, Mr. D has even less opportunity to speak Engish with anyone because he speaks some Portuguese so doesn't need lessons, just practice. Although we originally wanted to be in this position when we first moved to Portugal, we now find that some contact with fellow-Brits would be desirable. We do feel like friendly aliens sometimes!

There are furniture shops in Tomar but not such a great selection - Good luck

Our one trip to IKEA in Lisbon was 'hardly on the way to Lisbon' from Tomar. We used the satnav to get there and it was way past the Soccer stadiums, as I recall it was not quite the easy journey we had hoped for. Very pleased with the store though, we had never been to one before!!!
Are you sure the company you work for has been paying your NI contributions to the UK? As a Portuguese resident working in Portugal I think your social security contributions should be being paid to the relevant Portuguese authorities, although I could be wrong.

We went last year, twice, we got there about 2pm so we had a few hours to enjoy the snow men & games etc in the sun shine(our son was only 2 so it was just long enough), then when it was dark we walked back down through the town which was just gorgeous with the lights etc. Well worth a visit. We went on saturdays both times & didnt have to queue for tickets, the seond time we went was after christmas & it was a lot quieter which was good for the rides but the atmosphere wasnt the same as before christmas.
